Fun Fact Friday~ Cows Reality

Cow Reality to me is interesting.
God made a creature that could turn grass into a healthy meal. 
Today I am going to share some Cow Reality with you all.  Just a few facts that I found interesting and decided to share.

Cows are social animals.  They like to be in a groups.

Cows can eat up to 100 pounds of feed and drink up to 50 gallons of water a day.

Cows can smell up to 6 miles away.

Cows only have bottom teeth. To eat grass, they curl their tongue around it.

Female cows are pregnant for 9 months.

Cows can see only blues, greens and yellows. They can not see pink, red, purple or brown.

Cows have a single stomach, but 4 different digestive compartments.

Cows have 360-degree panoramic vision,  enabling them to see predators and anything else behind them.

A cow’s heart beats between 60 and 70 beats per minute.

Cows spend their days eating, chewing their cud (Regurgitated, partially digested food) and sleeping.

Cows can produce up to 125 lbs. of saliva a day.

Cows cannot vomit.

Article in the December Rodeo News!!

5th Annual Western States Ranch Rodeo Association National Finals Rodeo

The fifth-annual Western States Ranch Rodeo Association National Finals Rodeo was held October 30- November 2 at the Winnemucca Events Complex in Winnemucca, Nevada. 
The WSRRA National Finals showcased events of the working cowboy and cowgirls.  Throughout 2014, WSRRA sanctioned 41 open ranch rodeos, 15 women’s ranch rodeos and more than 100 ranch bronc riding events in 13 Western States.   The top 41 open teams, 15 women’s teams, 15 steer stoppers, and 15 ranch bronc riders competed for cash and prizes at the National Finals.  Prizes included Gist Buckles, custom made gear made by Ricardo’s Saddlery and John Mincer.
The Nationals Finals kicked off with ranch-dog trials, open jack pot roping, open women’s steer stopping, and a big loop roping.  The WSRRA big loop winners were RC Crutcher and John Schulte.  The WSRRA open jack pot roping winners were Rob Webb and Daxton Jim. The women’s steer stopping winner was Marcia Eiguren.
Friday, October 31, WSRRA kicked off the finals with all the teams working their ranch horses.  Friday also started the long go performances.  Teams competed in everyday ranch work events; tie down steer roping, trailer loading and team roping.  The WSRRA held the first 2014 night performance.  The performance highlighted the Grand Marshall, Darlene Loomis from Nebraska, and two rounds of the PWHRA (Professional Wild Horse Racers Association), WSRRA Ranch Bronc riding round 1 and team event competition by the open and women’s teams.  Rodeo clown, Tuffy Gessling entertained the crowd with his rope tricks and laughs. Devoted to providing a family atmosphere the WSRRA held a Halloween costume contest during the performance.  After the performance the crowd was invited to join recording artist, Joni Harms for a WSRRA Kickoff Party. 
Saturday, November 1, WSRRA held another long go performance which included sort & rope doctoring, and team branding. WSRRA National Sponsors, Performix Nutrition and The Boot Barn sponsored a dummy roping contest.  Buckles and Jackets were awarded to the kids. As the sun was going down the second evening performance was held.  This performance was full of Wild West action and western traditions.  Team events were held for the open and women’s teams, two rounds of PWHRA and WSRRA ranch bronc riding round 2.  The crowd again was entertained by Tuffy Gessling.  Saturday ended with year-end and long go awards at the Winners at Winners awards party, music by the Jeff Palmer Band, hosted by the Winners Inn & Casino. 
Sunday, November 2, WSRRA held the championship round ranch rodeo for the open and the women’s divisions.  It was also the final rounds of the PWHRA and ranch bronc riding.  Champions were crowned at the end of the performance.  The arena was highlighted with talent and traditions of the WSRRA.
Devoted to the west and its traditions, the WSRRA succeed in crowning cowboys and cowgirls for their efforts at the finals.  Congratulations to all the contestants. 
Established in 2010, the WSRRA is becoming the most popular ranch rodeo circuits for cowboys and cowgirls.  The association currently has more than 650 members.

A Sunday Thought from the Circle L!

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

This is Thanksgiving week and I have been thinking of verses in the the bible about giving thanks.  Here are a couple of my favorites.

O give thanks unto the LORD, he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Psalms 107:1

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
Colossians 4:2

My thoughts this week are actually pretty simple.  I am thankful.  I am thankful for my spiritual gifts and I am thankful for my earthly gifts.  We all fall short of giving enough thanks.  I am one that thinks about it a lot but don’t always express it. This thanksgiving season, I would like to be better at saying thanks and better at being thankful.
Just thinking about being thankful makes my heart sing.  Does it yours?  In Proverbs, it says “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine,” and I believe that a thankful heart doeth like good medicine.

My Blog of Pete

Joanna has done such a good job in keeping this blog updated and for that I want to tell her “Thank YOU.’  But I decided that I could also write a little about Pete.  So here it goes.

As I sat with Pete last week I was thinking about how lucky we are to have Pete and how much I have learned from Pete.

Last Sunday as Cody and I sat in Pete’s room I saw peace and I found comfort.  We were not sure if Pete would be with us come the next morning.  I prayed that I would let God be in control and I would have peace with what ever God discussion would be.  The nurses that day said that we should prepare our selves to make a life or death discussion.  I had a flood of emotions and left there that night with a “Pete, I love YOU.”  I felt peace and reassurance that God is in Control and I didn’t need to worry.

The next morning as I prayed, I felt the need that I need to be more “Simple” like Pete.  When I arrived in Cheyenne and Pete was doing so much better I knew that I need to be more like Pete.

So what have I learned from Pete?
Here is my list:

Willingness- Pete is always so willing to please and to do what you ask him to do.  I would like to be more like this.

Be Tough- Pete is the only person that I know that can hit his hand with a hammer and never say a thing.  He IS TOUGH.  He has shown that in the last week.

Keep Trying- Pete always tries.  And he tries again and again.  I love that about him.  I would like to be one that keeps trying.

It’s Important to be A Buddy- Pete is a Awsome Buddy.  Just ask Mike, Cody and Dad.  I think that life is all about having buddies.  Buddies are so important.  It’s important to have someone that listens.  And Pete is a good listener.  You can talk and talk and Pete just keeps shaking his head.  I want to be a better buddy.

It’s ok to Be Different-  If you know Pete, then you know that Pete loves ranch dressing and Ketchup on EVERYTHING.  I have seen him but ranch and ketchup on salad, potatoes, in his soup, on his sandwiches and the list goes on and on.  And you know what I think, If it puts a smile on your face, then go FOR IT!

Be Simple- As I talked to the workers the other Sunday about Pete.  I thought about how simple we need life to be.  Pete likes simple things like a old yearbook and a pencil and paper to write a letter.  I think that we get so carried away with life that we make it way more harder than it should be.  When have I sat down and wrote an old fashioned letter?  Or when have I stopped and looked at a old yearbook?  Well to be honest with you I can not remember.  What I do know is that, I have been trying to be more “simple”.  I believe that are service to God can also be Simple and I want to strive for that.

It’s Ok to take a Nap- Pete likes a Nap.  I think that naps are good for you.  (I sometimes wish I had time to take a nap but you know last time I tried, the twins had gotten into markers, and candy and and the list goes on.  I learned my lesson.  I had to clean and clean)

You are Never to Old to “Play”- I always loved to see Pete play with the kids.  And he played and played.  It made me smile and all the giggles from Pete and the kids are priceless.

God is in Control- So we all know that there are life lessons.  These past couple of weeks have been a lesson for me spiritually and real life.  It was so hard on me to see Pete lying in a bed, a machine breathing for him and wishing that I could take his place.  But I know that God has a plan for each one of us.  We do not know what that is but I am grateful that we don’t have to fear for he knows.  Like Joanna has said in posts before, we are very lucky to have family and friends that help us.  That don’t give up and that keep praying.  I have been reading in Proverbs.  I love that message there.  It says,”whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.”

Have you learned anything from Pete?  I would like to know.

Thanks again, each and everyone of you that has shown our family what love, care and praying can do.  I am humbled by the phone calls, texts, and messages that I have received.  I think that I can also speak for my sisters as well.

Yes we have boys that LOVE T-R-A-C-T-O-R-S!!

 

I had to post this picture because this is Reata’s FIRST Pony Tail.  I was one proud MOM.

 

We had 3 litters of puppies in the spam of 2 weeks.  So with that being said we had PUPPIES everywhere.  Ryder LOVED this blue healer puppy.  He could pick this puppy out and would carry him ever where.  Cody and I decided that we would keep him.  But he had an accident and is no longer with us. 🙁

 

This is my boss at the feed store.  Yes he is like a grandpa to the kids and he reads them stories.  I hope he never gets tired of reading stories.

2012 Cade played on Bridgeport Boys Basketball Team.  We went all over for games.  It was fun to watch the boys.  As you can see the Twins thought that games where fun too.

RYDERS Buddy. Joey we have named him.  He was the littlest of them all.



So in January we were blessed with puppies.  I mean really blessed.  17 to be exact.  3 mother dogs and one daddy.  I am happy to report that I have gotten rid of all of them except 1.  He is Ryder’s buddy.  We named him Joey.  We are having so much fun with Joey.  Is everyone having fun with their puppy?  Feel free to leave a comment.

Christmas Letter 2011

December 2011
Happy Holidays from our family to yours. 
Usually I don’t take time to write a little letter but this year I thought I would turn over a new leaf and attempt to write a little note to let people know what we are up to.
With every day comes new laughs, tears and memories.  Every day I am reminded how important every word, every footstep and every action is.  We have 4 little people that like to do the things that we do.  With that I am reminded what it tells us in Romans “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.” 
Cade-He turned 9 this year.  I am not sure where time has gone with this little boy but he is turning into a mature young man.  He is in 3rd grade.  He helped Cody in the hay field driving a mower, and he has been feeding the cows this winter with the HydraBed.  He also took his horse to fair in which him and his horse, Nichols, won All Around Junior. He is Papa’s left hand man.  He goes every morning and gets the babies out of bed.  He is such a help. 
Kason-He turned 7 this year.  Kason is full of fire.  I mean it.  Actually he loves firecrackers.  He is in the 1st grade.  He enjoys helping his dad and riding his horse, SIS.  In fact if Cody is saddled up so is Kason.  He loves to ride.  He loves to be outside.  I will look outside and he will be making something out of wood. I see him ridin some broncs some day, cause he is sure full of it.  He enjoys feeding the pigs and helping me with the babies.
Ryder-He turned 1 in September.  He is the “Quiet” twin.  He is a very good baby.  He spends his day with me at the store playing. He loves the dogs and he loves to ride the horses.  This summer it is going to be a sight when we have all the kids saddled.  Their faces when they are riding are priceless.  I cannot wait.  He is all boy, he loves to wrestle with Kason and the dogs.  He can say words like moo, da, mom, uh oh, pup, more and other things that I’m not sure what they mean. 
Reata-She turned 1 in September.  She is the “UnQuiet” twin.  She is very out spoken and lets everyone know what she wants. She also loves the horses and to ride with us.  She spends her day at the store writing in her little book with a pen.  It is very cute.  In a lot of ways she reminds me of me.  “O my” I say.  She says words like moo, mom, da, more, uh oh, pup, and other things that I’m not sure what they mean.
Cody and Me- Well we spend our days chasing our dreams.  This year we have been married for 13 years. Cody and I keep busy with the ranch work and other. J  Most of you know that Cody broke his neck this spring.  He is doing good but what an experience that I will never forget.  I realized that Prayer is a mighty source. Cody also qualified for the National Final Ranch Rodeo in Nevada this fall,  We all went and cheered him on.  In fact there were 17 of us that made the trip.  It was a 1200 mile one way trip.  Cody works part time at a local feedlot and day works when he has time!  In his other free time he starts some colts. In his other ‘FREE’ time he is busy making sure the cows are fed, watered and in.   I am recovering from shoulder surgery.  I am still working at the feed store in Bridgeport.  Most days my feet are running.  In my “FREE” time I enjoy helping Cody with the ranch work and enjoy riding my new colt.  I am reminded everyday how important “Life” is. We try everyday to be Simple.  Reminds me of a quote I saw the other day, “When the solution is simple, God is answering.” I am thankful that I have a source to go to for guidance and friends and family that have encouraging words and prayers.
So from me to you, thanks for being our friends, each of you have a special piece of our puzzle.

A Morning of Feeding with the twins!!!

So I thought I would share some of my thoughts and a story with you all. 
I volunteered to feed the other day since Cody was working.  So my bright idea was to feed after breakfast but before the babies would take their morning nap.  Ryder and Reata love to feed so I loaded them in the p-up and heading out.  We had a good time.  I really never stopped and thought about how hard it is to feed 100s of cows and keep a watch on two little people that have no fear.  They love to “MOOO” at the cows and follow them.  Did I mention that the cows like them.  I would be cutting twine and watching out of the corner of my eye for two little people.  Once Ryder was with me and I couldn’t find Reata.  “Reata, Reata,” I said.  Guess where she was?  In the middle of a corral filled with colts and calves.  No Fear!!  They all just looked and looked at her.  They seem to understand her language she was saying. 
Anyway the feeding got done that day, the babies got a good nap and so did MOM! 
Did I mention?  I love my life.  God has given me a good one and I wouldn’t change it for a thing.
