| Pray to be humble and not hurtful. Pray that God will help heal old wounds. |
Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.
Psalms 119:22
Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
Psalms 123:3
My thoughts for the last couple of weeks have been on the word: Contempt. I have actually been studying it and praying about it. Contempt is an emotion and it is a strong one at that. Contempt is anger, disgust and plain right cruel. Contempt can be found in our marriages and in our friendships.
Contempt is the feeling that something or someone is undeserving of consideration or deserving of scorn.
What does contempt sound like?
If you’ve ever said, “Oh, I would never do that!” when referring to the actions of other people, you have expressed contempt toward their actions.
If you’ve ever said, “Oh, I would never be like that!”, then you’ve expressed contempt toward a person.
If you have ever been made fun of or made fun of your spouse/friend, then you have expressed contempt toward your friend/spouse.
What does contempt look like?
If you have ever rolled your eyes, you have shown signs of contempt.
If you have no empathy, you have shown signs of contempt.
If you are the person who felt the contempt/disgust, you are likely to choose to leave the relationship, to spit it out from your life-space.
If you have ever felt like you have been treated in this manner, you also are likely to exit the relationship. That’s because most people react to being treated contemptuously with the thought “If you don’t want me, then I don’t want you!”
What does contempt feel like?
If you have ever felt hopeless, you have felt contempt.
If you have ever had to questions your friendship or marriage, you have felt contempt.
WOW, right!!!
I am guilty, what about you?
Contempt is damaging to all relationships including parenting. When we journey down the road to contempt, we put our friendships, including marriage at risk for a disaster.
So what can we do about it?
Pray to be humble and not hurtful. Pray that God will help heal old wounds.
We can use, “I” statements. “I feel frustrated when……” or “My feelings are hurt when……………”
Never assume. If a friend or husband does something that annoys you or hurts you, don’t assume he/she is doing it on purpose. Talk to them and tell them your feelings, but don’t blame them for purposelessly being hurtful.
We all have faults, right? We need to pay attention to our own faults and practice compassion.
Listen to understand. When talking to another person, appreciate what they are saying.
Be positive. Being a positive person enhances our relationships. Appreciation, gratitude, affections, agreements, interest and smiles go a long way.
Be respectful.
Talk. Talk. Talk. Don’t let it fester. Talk about your feelings. Talk about your stress. Don’t attack. Don’t assume.
My Sunday Thought, Contempt, has been a long time coming. I can not lie. I have read and prayed about it. It has made me take a step back on my own life and realize that I need to fix myself.
Thanks for all the support in my blog. I write about my own personal thoughts.
Happy Monday!!

I missed by Sunday thought this week so I thought I would blog a Thursday thought. I found this short little poem the other day and thought I would share. It pretty well sums up what I have been thinking about. My prayers this week seem to go unanswered but I know that God is listening.
I hope that you enjoyed this little poem as much as I did. Happy Thursday my friends.

| Cody, Nichols and Roany taking Papa on his last ride. |
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For those where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matt 6:20-21
The above verses were read at Papa’s funeral. Where is your treasure? These past weeks, I have been really trying to focus on my own treasure.
Struggles may hinder us from laying up treasures in heaven. None of us enjoy going through struggles, but we have to understand that our struggles may be an opportunity for us for advancement. Have you really thought about struggles? My struggles often become springboards that catapults me to a new level. Struggles often stop me from laying up my treasure but they also make me think of the treasures that I am laying up. I am not talking about earthly treasures, I am talking about our heavenly treasures. We will take nothing with us, when our final day comes.
Our challenges may become one of our greatest assets.
Think about an eagle, without the resistance of air, the eagle couldn’t soar. Without the resistance of water, a ship can’t float. Without the resistance of gravity, we couldn’t walk. Without the opposition or resistance, there is no potential for progress. There are no shortcuts; there is no easy way to mature physically, emotionally, or spiritually. We must remain determined to lay our treasures and work with God. We must remember that salvation requires prayers everyday.
My thought is this; life is to short to not think about our treasure. Our treasure needs to be where only God can see it.
A Sunday Thought from the Circle L!!
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.Mark 11: 23-24
I have been thinking about mountains. This weekend we traveled over the Medicine Bow National Forest. The scenery was beautiful. Many thoughts traveled thru my mind as we traveled. Thoughts that included friends, family, and my own life. I had thoughts about life and death.
What mountain is in front of you today? A friend, a family member, your job? Jesus said that whatever our mountain is, we must do more than think or pray about it; we must speak to the obstacle.
My mountains often seem to large to move but then I remember this verse:
Beat your plowshares into swords, and you pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
Joel 3:10
I believe that we need to have quiet time with ourselves. My quiet time is sometimes hard to get. But I am reminded daily that it is so important to find a quiet place and have quiet thoughts. When I have quiet thought I feel stronger. Do you? When I stop and look at the mountains that God has helped me move, I feel grateful. I feel thankful. I feel the need to pray more. I feel happy. I feel whole. I feel blessed.
Let’s stop talking to God about how big our Mountains are, and start talking to our mountains about how big our God is.
