Role Model by Choice

A couple of weeks ago, a couple of our neighbors asked Cade to be on their rodeo team. Cade who is 15, had never competed on a team, said “Sure, I will be on a team!”

The days before the ranch rodeo Cody and Cade could be found in our arena practicing. Practicing roping. Learning the rules. Spending father-son alone time. It was a great opportunity for both of them.

The day of the ranch rodeo, I was nervous and excited for Cade. I mean, really how can he be old enough to be in a ranch rodeo! But I was also excited because I know that he had been working so hard.

Something else happened that day that made my eyes water too. I witnessed a group of older cowboys treat my son like their own. I didn’t have to worry about a thing, all I had to do was sit, watch and be thankful for folks that step up to be role models to our kids.

This is what I saw:

Confidence and Leadership. I saw a group of Cowboys that where positive, calm and confident in not only themselves, but also for those around them.

Uniqueness. I witnessed grown men that choose to be proud of their lives. They all have different stories, but choose to be confident in their ways. They are not fake.

Communication. A vital piece of being successful in a ranch rodeo is communication. Good communication means listening as well as talking. I witnessed great communication between these cowboys and Cade, they all helped him understand the rules.

Respect and Gratitude. Showing respect and gratitude speaks volumes about how other people see you.

Great Teachers. I saw more than just “teachers”! These cowboys are learners themselves. They challenge themselves and surround themselves with great people. Cade saw his team members being role models, teaching him to stretch himself in order to be successful.

Willingness. I saw grown cowboys that were willing to make a difference in a kid’s life. Willingness to help those around you is a great trait to have.

What I saw was true role models. Raising kids isn’t easy by any means, but it makes it easier when you have friends and family members that help you. Today I was grateful for these friends of ours that are true role models for my kids. They possess the qualities that we all should have, and will make us all better people. I saw Cade become more confident. I saw him want to become better.

We often don’t recognize true role models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress. That really implies that it takes one to know one. Thus, if you are asking the question, that may mean you are well along the road to being that role model already. Don’t stop now.

Thank you Lost Creek Ranch Cowboys for all you did, all you do and for being great role models.

Let’s recognize your role models today.
Tag them in a comment section so that we all can say “Thank You.”

A Sunday Thought~Be Grateful for What You Are

A Sunday Thought~Be Grateful for What You Are

Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation
for all abundance. ~Elkart T

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
James 1:17-19
Ever found yourself saying statements like these:

I wish I had her skinny shape. I wish I had her job. I wish I had her life. I wish I could afford her closet. I wish my house was decorated and more updated. O man, it could go on and on. Right?
Researchers say it is part of our American mind set to desire to have more, go further, be happier, and look better than our parents, and especially than our friends and neighbors. While I think that a little friendly rivalry can spur our exercise efforts if we have a workout partner, having a whole lot of envy of others can send us into a backwards spiral.
I believe that one of the best antidotes for statements of comparison is gratitude for what God has given us and for what we are. This past week, I have been really trying to focus on the good qualities God has given to me. I even wrote a list of the qualities God has given me. It was really good for me to focus on that list because when we appreciate our own abilities and the gifts God has given to us, contentment and peace will settle our hearts. The above verse, taken from James, tells us that every good gift comes from above and we should never forget.
My plan is to move my pride aside and focus on the love God has shown to me.

So, whenever I start feeling insignificant or “less than,” I will be writing a list of blessings and gifts God has given to me. When I write these lists those dark clouds of regret will begin to clear and I then will see the light of who I am and what God has graciously given to me.
On days (which has actually been a lot lately) when I feel insignificant, I think about the person I am today and the special relationship I have with Christ. It brings the sun out, so I can see the reflection of a lady who is unique and certain of her personal worth because she is loved by God and complete in Christ.
My prayer:
Lord, you are an amazingly loving and giving God. Thank you for your goodness and your love. Thank you for your changing love!

A Sunday Thought~ Unpack Your Dreams

This year I am going to Unpack my Dreams.
Will you join me?(Photo by Cary Leithead)

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Isiah 43:19

It is almost the New Year!!
My thoughts have been just that- A NEW YEAR!
I have been asking myself some questions.

What do I want to do with my life in 2016?
What is our story going to look like in 2016?
What are my goals?
What can I do to help those around me?

You see, I am not making New Year’s resolutions, I am making Goals and Dreams.

Do you have any New Year’s Goals or Dreams?

I am determined to unpack my goals and my dreams. I know that if I ask God to rekindle them in my heart and mind, he will. It is time to make my visions BIG.

God tell us in Ephesians that he wants to pour out His favors on us.

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:7

How am I going to achieve these Goals and Dreams?

I am gong to achieve these Goals and Dreams by
*believing anything is possible, when I have God on my side.
*starting each day thinking about my Goals and Dreams.
*hugging and kissing the ones that I love.
*being healthy.
*praying more.
*finding the best in everyone.
*supporting those around me.
*every day aiming to be better than the day before.
*being grateful.
*being simple.

It is almost the New Year and I am challenging you.
It is almost the New Year and I am challenging myself.
We can be a team and achieve our Goals and our Dreams.
I am Unpacking them in 2016, will you?

Happy Monday, friends!

This is the Year I will unpack my dreams.  I will be Stronger, Braver, Kinder and
Unstoppable. This year I am going to choose to be Fierce and I want you to join me.

A Sunday Thought~I am Grateful for……………

I am Grateful for………………………..

Gratitude begins when my sense of entitlement ends. (Photo Credit to Cary Leithead)
I am thankful for times like this. I get to gather a few thoughts that seem to wonder away.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Colossians 3:15

My Sunday thought is about being Grateful.  This past week has reminded me that I need to be more grateful and so I wrote a list.

I am Grateful for……………………

A husband – A partner that makes me want to be a better person.
A messy house – our kids making memories.
A pile of laundry – we have clothes.
A pasture full of cattle – a job.
A sink full of dishes – we will not starve.
A day full of questions – our kids are learning.
A sun rise – early mornings.
A friend – someone to listen.
A horse – a soul refresher.
A long dirt road – clear your head.
A camera – photo albums full of memories.
A dream – a goal that we can aim to.
A lesson learned – never quit trying.
A blessing – bigger than a burden.
A life – so  that I can be better than I was yesterday.
A Bible – God is always near.

My list could go on, but I think I will stop.
Today I am grateful that God knows my heart.
Others may not understand my good intentions, they may judge me, my words, or my deeds, they may find faults or blame me because they don’t understand but, God knows my heart and he knows that I am learning.

I am grateful for prayers. I am a work in progress. I am trying to be more like he created me to be.

Happy Monday, dear friends.  I am thankful for all of you that read my blog.
