Role Model by Choice

A couple of weeks ago, a couple of our neighbors asked Cade to be on their rodeo team. Cade who is 15, had never competed on a team, said “Sure, I will be on a team!”

The days before the ranch rodeo Cody and Cade could be found in our arena practicing. Practicing roping. Learning the rules. Spending father-son alone time. It was a great opportunity for both of them.

The day of the ranch rodeo, I was nervous and excited for Cade. I mean, really how can he be old enough to be in a ranch rodeo! But I was also excited because I know that he had been working so hard.

Something else happened that day that made my eyes water too. I witnessed a group of older cowboys treat my son like their own. I didn’t have to worry about a thing, all I had to do was sit, watch and be thankful for folks that step up to be role models to our kids.

This is what I saw:

Confidence and Leadership. I saw a group of Cowboys that where positive, calm and confident in not only themselves, but also for those around them.

Uniqueness. I witnessed grown men that choose to be proud of their lives. They all have different stories, but choose to be confident in their ways. They are not fake.

Communication. A vital piece of being successful in a ranch rodeo is communication. Good communication means listening as well as talking. I witnessed great communication between these cowboys and Cade, they all helped him understand the rules.

Respect and Gratitude. Showing respect and gratitude speaks volumes about how other people see you.

Great Teachers. I saw more than just “teachers”! These cowboys are learners themselves. They challenge themselves and surround themselves with great people. Cade saw his team members being role models, teaching him to stretch himself in order to be successful.

Willingness. I saw grown cowboys that were willing to make a difference in a kid’s life. Willingness to help those around you is a great trait to have.

What I saw was true role models. Raising kids isn’t easy by any means, but it makes it easier when you have friends and family members that help you. Today I was grateful for these friends of ours that are true role models for my kids. They possess the qualities that we all should have, and will make us all better people. I saw Cade become more confident. I saw him want to become better.

We often don’t recognize true role models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress. That really implies that it takes one to know one. Thus, if you are asking the question, that may mean you are well along the road to being that role model already. Don’t stop now.

Thank you Lost Creek Ranch Cowboys for all you did, all you do and for being great role models.

Let’s recognize your role models today.
Tag them in a comment section so that we all can say “Thank You.”

Shine On Series #2

Shine On, Shine On was the subject of a blog that I did a couple weeks ago. Did you see it? If not, here is the link Shine On, Shine On!  I have decided that there are a lot of people that help me “Shine” and I am going to feature them on my Shine On, Shine On series.

Meet Christine Mulloy.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I grew up in Paramus, New Jeresey. I moved out to Colorado when I was 18 to attend Colorado Christian University. I graduated in May 2004, with a Bachelors of Arts in History and a license to teach the social sciences in grades 7-12. I took my first teaching job in Rapid City, South Dakota in the Fall of 2004. I taught all the history classes for grades 8 to 12, coached cheerleading and headed up student council. I was busy, which might be an understatement. I was proposed to by Coote Mulloy in October of 2004 and was married June 18, 2005. As soon as we were married, we moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska and I took a job at Gering Junior High School, where I taught for three years. We moved to Chadron in 2008 and I finished my Masters Degree in History and a thesis on the First Amendment “Establishment Clause”, which deals with religion. I have been married for 10 years now and we have five children. After child number three was born, we moved home to my husband’s family ranch, which is a cow/calf operation. I worked under Naomi Loomis at Double A Feed Store for a couple of years, but now stay home full time and home school my children. My husband and I are active in our church in the nursery and with children’s church. We feel called to marriage ministry and teach a marriage class twice a year and counsel with couples who want Godly wisdom for their marriages and premarital counseling.

What does your daily routine look like?

Every morning when I get up, I feed the children and have them help clean up and get dressed. Before they can play or turn the TV on, we have to do their school work and chores. Usually we can finish by lunch. This frees our afternoons to go to town for music lessons, helping on the ranch, or other family and church activities. Right now, we also drive to Cheyenne, Wyoming once a week for eye therapy for my oldest daughter, and meet once a week with other homeschooling families to have school together and share a meal together. I often cook for family or neighbors who come to help on our ranch. I have learned to enjoy cooking for large groups! We always seem to have quite a few visitors as well, including friends, family, hunters, and travelers. My mother says my front door is a revolving door. My husband and I like it that way!

What inspires you to be you?

My inspiration comes from God and His Word. I also enjoy reading, and talking with my mother and mother-in-law, and a few close friends about life. I believe Godly counsel is very important!

What do ranch wives need more of?

We need more time in the Word of God. It’s easy to get caught up in all that needs accomplished on the ranch. Life is work out here and we work hard everyday! We need to remember the work will be there tomorrow and Christ needs to come first. (I need to remind myself of that all the time!)

What do ranch wives need less of?

Negative thought. We need to rid ourselves of negative thought about our husbands, children, relationships and most importantly, about ourselves.

Do you have any advice for ranch wives or any women?

Find your value in God alone. It’s too large of a burden to place on your husband or any friendship, and it’s not theirs to carry anyway.
Remember: Marriage is not to make you happy, it’s to make you more Christ-like.

How do you stay so motivated?

Staying in the Word of God; continually reading the Bible and posting verses around the house so I can read and pray even when I’m doing dishes and laundry!

My Shine On message to Christine:

A Sunday Thought from the Circle L~Friends

A Sunday Thought from the Circle L~Friends!

Be with those that bring the best in you, not the stress in you.
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Proverbs 17:17

I have been thinking a about what it takes to be a friend.
In Proverbs, it says that a friend loveth at all times. I fall short of this everyday.  This week I am aiming to be a better friend.  In fact, I have been praying that God helps me to be a better friend. I have been praying that I am more like him.  He is a better friend to me than I am to him and I want to change that.

To be a good friend:

To be a good friend, I think that we need to be Real. God knows us inside and out, but do our friends? I believe it is better to be disliked for who we are, than to be liked for who we aren’t.

To be a good friend, we need to be Honest. We already know what happens to dishonest people. We need to be honest with our friends and with God.

To be a good friend, we need to be Loyal.

To be a good friend, we need to be Respectful. We all have secrets, right? God keeps our secrets, we need to keep our friends’ secrets.

To be a good friend, we need to Care. God cares and we need to also. We need to be there in a crisis.

To be a good friend, we need to give Perspective. Advise, not judgement. Let God be the judge and let us suggest.

To be a good friend, we need to give Space. God gives us space. All the space we need.  Friends need space as well.

To be a good friend, we need to Share. We need to be selfless.

To be a good friend, we need to be able to Apologize and Forgive. God forgives us for all our sins. We need to apologize. We also need to forgive.

My prayer this week is just to be a better friend.  A better friend to God and a better friend to you.

Happy Monday, dear friends.  How can I be a better friend to you?
