Role Model by Choice

A couple of weeks ago, a couple of our neighbors asked Cade to be on their rodeo team. Cade who is 15, had never competed on a team, said “Sure, I will be on a team!”

The days before the ranch rodeo Cody and Cade could be found in our arena practicing. Practicing roping. Learning the rules. Spending father-son alone time. It was a great opportunity for both of them.

The day of the ranch rodeo, I was nervous and excited for Cade. I mean, really how can he be old enough to be in a ranch rodeo! But I was also excited because I know that he had been working so hard.

Something else happened that day that made my eyes water too. I witnessed a group of older cowboys treat my son like their own. I didn’t have to worry about a thing, all I had to do was sit, watch and be thankful for folks that step up to be role models to our kids.

This is what I saw:

Confidence and Leadership. I saw a group of Cowboys that where positive, calm and confident in not only themselves, but also for those around them.

Uniqueness. I witnessed grown men that choose to be proud of their lives. They all have different stories, but choose to be confident in their ways. They are not fake.

Communication. A vital piece of being successful in a ranch rodeo is communication. Good communication means listening as well as talking. I witnessed great communication between these cowboys and Cade, they all helped him understand the rules.

Respect and Gratitude. Showing respect and gratitude speaks volumes about how other people see you.

Great Teachers. I saw more than just “teachers”! These cowboys are learners themselves. They challenge themselves and surround themselves with great people. Cade saw his team members being role models, teaching him to stretch himself in order to be successful.

Willingness. I saw grown cowboys that were willing to make a difference in a kid’s life. Willingness to help those around you is a great trait to have.

What I saw was true role models. Raising kids isn’t easy by any means, but it makes it easier when you have friends and family members that help you. Today I was grateful for these friends of ours that are true role models for my kids. They possess the qualities that we all should have, and will make us all better people. I saw Cade become more confident. I saw him want to become better.

We often don’t recognize true role models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress. That really implies that it takes one to know one. Thus, if you are asking the question, that may mean you are well along the road to being that role model already. Don’t stop now.

Thank you Lost Creek Ranch Cowboys for all you did, all you do and for being great role models.

Let’s recognize your role models today.
Tag them in a comment section so that we all can say “Thank You.”

God Confidence vs. Self Confidence

A Sunday Thought~God Confidence vs. Self Confidence

Learning the difference between God’s-Confidence vs Self-Confidence this week has really opened my eyes and my soul.

This week Cody and I have been talking about the difference in God-confidence and our self-confidence. It has been so good for me that I decided to share my thoughts with you all.

You see, I have been running my days on self confidence and I have decided that I am going to start running my days on God’s confidence.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.  Ephesians 2:10

So what is the difference?  How can we adjust ourselves?

Self Confidence is how we believe in ourselves and our abilities, it is basically how we think and feel about ourselves.  As I write this I find myself worrying about what others will say, or what they will think. Whenever I lack self-confidence like this, or become overly self-conscious, I freeze up. I’m afraid I’m not clever enough or interesting, and you won’t keep reading my post. This really is something that I work on everyday with my blog posts. I know that I am not the only one that experiences this paralyzing self-consciousness. Right?

This is how I see it, the root of our problem is FEAR. Fear of rejection, fear of loosing, fear of looking dumb, fear of what others think, fear of what other people think or fear about how other people feel about us. These fears cause us all to hesitate and not put ourselves out there.

But….

What about pride? Sometimes we are driven by pride, we become determined to prove ourselves to those around us. Right? This activity can cause us to accomplish a lot, but in the end the result is more about us and way less about God. Pride can be the cause of our low self image and that feeling bad for ourselves. Here’s an example:

When we can’t do something as well as we’d like, our pride can’t bear the thought of our “losing” or “not measuring up.” So we mope about our shortcomings and failures, and stop trying.

Sound familiar. O ya, I have found myself doing the above.

Well the good news is that we can change our focus. We can move from being so self-conscious (like worrying about what others might be thinking of us) to being more God-conscious (like focusing on what God wants in our lives and let him work on our imperfect morals to help those around us).

Discussing this with Cody, we decided that we are going to work on being more God confident. We made a list of our thoughts:

  1. When we are more God Confident, we can base our self-image on what God thinks of us. We know that God loves us, that he values us, that he will forgive us and that we have a purpose in life. What really matters is what God can do though our lives.
  2.  We need to ask God EVERYDAY to help us serve him in his purpose(s). God has a plan for each of us. We want to make sure that we are following that.
  3.  We are going to quit procrastinating. (THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE HARD FOR ME.) We know that we have important work to do before he comes again. We want to make sure that we are ready.
  4. We need to be grateful for all we have and we need to offer our thanks to him everyday.
  5. We decided to make an EVERYDAY conscious decision to trust that God will do good things through us. We know that having God confidence in ourselves will help those around us.

In the end, focusing on our selves will either keep us from getting to the work that God has planned for us to do, or will distract our motivation and messages by bringing glory to ourselves instead of God. If we focus on the one in the clouds, our confidence will soar and will motivate us to get the work that God has for each of us to do today.

Thanks for letting me share our thoughts today with you all. This is definitely something that I need to work on each and every day. I need more confidence in God’s work within myself. I get so tangled up in myself that it causes me to have anxiety and fear.

Today, will you make a stand with me?

Together let’s let our God-Confidence SHINE.

Happy Monday, Friends!!

A Sunday Thought~ 9 Godly Traits

A Sunday Thought~ 9 Godly Traits

9 Godly Traits that I want to have.

This past week I have been thinking about Godly traits that I think I need. I have been studying about wisdom in my Bible. As I seek to be a better wife, mom, and friend, I want to access all the wisdom that only God can give me.

And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.
Exodus 31:3

These traits that I want to have include:

I want to fear the Lord.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

I want to be teachable.
Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
Proverbs 8:33

I want to watch my mouth. I want to talk less and I want my speech to build up and encourage others.
In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
Proverbs 10:19
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
Proverbs 15:2

I want to stay away from sin. I know that sin will pull you in. I want to make sure that I recognize these pulls and weaknesses and keep myself out of the temptations they might provide.
A wise man fearth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
Proverbs 14:16

I want to guide my heart in the right direction. I want to make sure that I make that I am focused on Godly things and not worldly things.
Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
Proverbs 23:19

I want to make sure I examine all my choices. I want to consider how these choices, whether they are big or small daily decisions, will impact my future here, and in eternity.
O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!
Deuteronomy 32:29

I want to make sure that I am careful in my choice of friends.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Proverbs 13:20

I want to make sure that I know that everything that happens in my life is in God’s hand.
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them.
Ecclesiastes 9:1

These 9 Godly traits are what I want to focus my life around each and everyday. I am praying that the holy spirit will help me grow in wisdom that I will be a Godly christian woman, mom, wife and friend that He would have me to be.

Happy Monday Friends!!

Do you have any traits that you would add?
